How RAL 5000 reads
Violet blue starts the blue group with a muted, mid dark blue carrying a faint purple cast. It is softer than RAL 5002 ultramarine blue and a little lighter than RAL 5003 sapphire blue, a quiet, dependable blue.
Where it turns up
It suits doors, machinery, garden furniture and bikes. Blues look darker on large areas than on a chip, so paint a big sample board and judge it from a few metres away.
Ordering RAL 5000 in paint or powder
Quote the number, not just the name: say "RAL Classic 5000" and add the gloss level, the product type (wall paint, metal paint, powder, aerosol) and the surface. The same number mixed by two makers, or in two gloss levels, can look slightly different, so keep a whole job in one batch and look at a sample in daylight first. The paint counter guide covers the questions to ask.
