How RAL 8017 reads

Chocolate brown is a deep, dark brown with a faint warm cast, close to RAL 8016 mahogany brown but slightly cooler. It is one of the most familiar dark browns on the chart.

Where it turns up

It is common on window frames, doors, garage doors, gutters and fences. Dark browns absorb heat, so on uPVC and composite products follow the maker's colour guidance.

Ordering RAL 8017 in paint or powder

Quote the number, not just the name: say "RAL Classic 8017" and add the gloss level, the product type (wall paint, metal paint, powder, aerosol) and the surface. The same number mixed by two makers, or in two gloss levels, can look slightly different, so keep a whole job in one batch and look at a sample in daylight first. The paint counter guide covers the questions to ask.
